Good Government
A friend of mine stood for election once
He did not win
Did not come even near
Bright intelligent capable he was
Did not get the vote
Then I saw clear
Elections are not
About candidates and their stall
Elections reveal the electorate
That’s all
The people’s mood
The atmosphere they’re in
The signs of the times
Indicate who will win
Manipulation yes
This plays a part
All that money thrown at
Persuasion’s art
Trump and Boris
Blond and bouncy guys
Reveal us to ourselves
That’s the surprise
We don’t want serious talk
We’re all too tired
The world we’re in
Is stressed and we are mired
These guys come along
The truth don’t matter
We like their style
We like their funny patter
Our world of words
Makes our world quite weary
Democracy deals in words
Though sometimes dreary
A leader with clear voice
Can be temptation’s choice
Not so long since Hitler ruled the roost
Good leaders are vital
To our story
We need their power to lead
We don’t need fury
It isn’t entertainment
We look for wise arrangement
To help us all continue on the journey
