I grew up in a simple faith
Simple faith and sound
God is in his heaven
I am on the ground
Everyone went to Sunday mass
Jesus says hello
Then back home to breakfast
Football down below
Simple faith has stayed with me
Through all life’s ups and downs
I finally left priesthood
But faith was still around
We went to mass
I wrote a bit
Homilies and such
Once you’ve had the pulpit
You can’t stay in a hutch
Even after Maggie died
Faith was still profound
Always felt the goodness
Of the Lord
But losing purpose
After that
Depression setting in
Lost my way entirely
On the road
So like Bartimaeus
Who once upon a time
Could see the world
As plain as you or I
I sat beside the road of life
Felt the world go by
But could not
Gather energy to try
The prayer of Bartimaeus
‘Lord that I may see!’
A prayer for us to say
Each every day
For vision gives the energy
And energy is all
Stand up stand up
Let us be on our way
