Into Thy Hands

When I fall asleep
I trust that I will wake
It happens every night
I hardly think
Grateful for the end of day
Sinking into rest
Close my eyes
Unconscious in a blink

Boxing matches
Once went on and on
Until one or t’ other
Fell to ground
Exhaustion was often times
The winner
Wearing down the fighters
Round by round

Football matches last
For ninety minutes
It’s good to know
The limits of the game
The final moments
Often bring a drama
Going on and on
Would make insane

So our life
Is rounded in a sleep
What came before
What lies beyond so deep
But knowing there’s an end
Can act as a good friend
Encouraging us
An appointment soon to keep

The end can come too soon
For many folk
Alpine cable car
I hear
Just broke
Others caught in warfare
Others in a smash
Death comes soon or late
Bed – car crash

Readiness for death
Depends on living
How we play the game
From day to day
The sorrow of our leaving
The sorry days of grieving
Is part of this world’s drama
And decay

When Jesus on the cross
His life was ending
He gave it up of his own free will
No one takes it from me
I yield myself to God
God grant us grace
That destiny to fulfil
