So much to remember
Going out the door
– Front door keys wallet
Mobile and messages
Masks and shopping bags –
If I wore my hearings aids
I’d have to add them too
Now is there any more?
I laugh sometimes
My memory seems
To be slowing down
One day I’ll go out that door
Without my trousers on!
It happened to my granddad
One dark Christmas time
He’d gone to the outside loo
Save climbing stairs
Night was dark
And he near blind
He missed the door
On his return
Only a nightshirt
His little legs were bare
A knock at our back door
Alerted me
I caught up granddad
Half way down our road
Turned him round and brought him home
Made a mug of tea
Thank you Brian
I’m all right now me
I friend of mine from
My priesthood days
Is nearly blind
Oh when he could see!
Very bright very lovely fellow
Cared for by another dear friend
That’s our Rosemary
All these tales
Of people growing old
Well we have to warn you
Time now you were told
The day will come
When you’re not young
Tell the truth it won’t be long
Just make sure
You’ve got your trousers on
