Naimh and Jack
Are going to the Blasket
Famous island off the Kerry coast
Two month stint as caretakers the contract
Island dwellers guest receiving host
Even now arriving
They are thinking
About the day when they will have to leave
So beautiful the island and its prospect
To say goodbye they know will make them grieve
Reminded me of people on the telly
Monastery guests just for a time
The thought of silence nearly drove them crazy
It grew on them so much they were inclined
Not to talk or leave their quiet bubble
They found a peace they never thought to find
Going back into the world and all its trouble
They went of course but wiser far and kind
No one is an island that’s the wisdom
But isolated we can sometimes be
If silence is your weather then enjoy it
But remember there’s a ferry back from sea
