Walk Of Life

(Dedication, devotion – Dire Straits)

My grandson Lucas
Loves to make his mark
Pen on paper
Scribbles on a page
The artist in us lives
For paint on canvas
Creating beauty
Fit for any age

Repair Shop
Shows me
Crafters at their workbench
Bending over elements so fine
Tiny movements
Total concentration
Restoring loveliness
When aged by time

Sculptor
Chips away
With mallet, chisel
Creating shapes
His eye already sees
Masons ever working
On cathedrals
Stone restorers
Build in centuries

Medieval monks

in monasteries

illuminated manuscripts prepare

the word of God

beautifully embroidered

all their effort

all their daily care

Mechanics in a garage
Fixing engines
Miners at the coalface
Digging coal
Everyone
A picture in concentration
Do the right thing
Do it right – the goal

Here I am
Sitting by my window
A window on the world
I’m glad to say
Writing words
Flowing from my spirit
Sharing stories
Sharing anyway

Devotion to our task
Brings satisfaction
Digging deep
A treasure we unfold
A richness of the spirit
Is our essence
So dig today
For riches yet untold
