Where Galway Kisses Mayo

Did you know that Wittgenstein
Lived in Connemara?
At Rosroe, next to Killary
For quiet
His name enough
To put me off pursuing
A study of the man
Or what he thought

Did you know
That Killary is a fjord?
That Mayo Galway
Meet here at Leenane?
The water here
Its depth of 45 metres
‘The Shallow Seabed’
The meaning of the name

It’s a stunning place to see
This flooded valley
Ten miles long east west
And out to sea
Delphi Lodge not far away
It famous
For turning starving people
From its door

The grandeur of the mountains
Here dramatic
The Fjord here divides
Mweelrea and Maum
The drama of our human lives
Still greater
Where people live and die
And others yawn
