Whatever Life Brings

When his mother died
His whole life changed
Nothing ever more
Would cause him pain
He’d lost the dearest one
He’d ever known
Life would never be the same again

Whatever troubles
In the future lay
He’d deal with them
Just part of his in tray
The hardest thing to face
That pain of heart
Had given him a strength
A brand new start

My father too
Came home a different man
When war was over
Fire and frying pan
Nothing still to come
Would bother him
After desert war
And Normandy so grim

And going through depression
Altered me
At the time
No future could I see
But emerging from
That time of dark despair
I shout for joy
My fist it thumps the air
