The Stately Home Of England

The Stately Home Of England

Andy Burnham
Puts it in a nutshell
The way that England rules
The whole UK
London-centric
Male-dominated
Elite-driven
Couldn’t put better
I have to say

I’ve always had
A difficulty with England
Because of Irish blood
I suppose
But also
Northern origins
Are working
And class
Another thing
Gets up my nose

The geography is lovely
In its regions
The people too
I like I can’t complain
But the hoity-toity
Monied folk
In mansions
A world away
From honest working men

Our history
Is money versus poverty
The well to do
The aristocracy
Satanic mills
And mines
The ancient grievance
Industry
And modern slavery

Let regions take
The work that goes to London
Let women walk
Where only men have trod
Let the common man
Take up the needs of country
Elites are not so special
