The House On Muckloon Hill

Moore Hall by Lough Carra
Empty shell
Burnt by rebel forces
What the hell!
Beautiful proportions
Georgian style
Rear walled garden
Fine country pile

Not too big not too grand
A home
Lovely rooms
A library full of tomes
Set on fire
The country all in flame
The front resisted
Proud of its own name

George Henry
Decent landlord
Famine time
Won money when his horse
At Chester won
He bought grain to feed his tenants
No one lost his life
No one evicted
Honourable man

Heat of battle
Remembers nothing good
Destruction
Is what we’re fighting for
The house was put to flame
It’s standing just the same
A witness
To the foolishness of war
