I dreamed I dreamed
Of coming home to England
Two years in Rome
And studying the game
The sun was always shining
In that city
I dreamed of foggy mornings
And of rain
The last six months
I couldn’t bear the waiting
A bookshop by the Spanish Steps
Allowed
Books by Thomas Hardy
I was reading
Mayor of Casterbridge
Far From The Madding Crowd
I dreamt of sitting
Forecastle
On the ferry
Watching Dover cliffs come into view
The sight of dear old Blighty
Was my vision
The hop fields of Kent
I thought of too
But alas our dreams of home
Are oft misguided
The day I sailed
A channel fog the view
No peaceful meditation
Back to Blighty
A gang of Japanese
A noisy crew
Be careful what you wish for
Is the motto
The things you miss and want
May all come true
I wanted fog
I got it in abundance
And rain?
Well that came falling too!
