Drop Of Cold Tea

I make soda bread at home
Keeps me happy
A recipe my mother handed down
To my brother and my nephew
First of all
My nephew then made soda bread
For the Crown!

Nephew John was working
At the Palace
Sandringham, Balmoral
Saw him too,
And Windsor don’t forget
Got the video yet
Of the dinner that the Queen
Gave Jacques Chirac

John made soda bread
For the queen
She liked it very much
At teatime cream
Now on the Isle of Wight
Our John
A baker bright
The best sourdough
The island’s ever seen

The soda has
A rare ingredient
Flour and soda
Salt and sugar
Milk and butter fix
Then surprise, surprise
Before your very eyes
A drop of cold tea
Completes the mix

Whose idea was this?
I often say
Was it Nanna who suggested,
‘Drop of tay’
Was it waste not want not
In the glen
Or give it flavour
Give it tea, you ken

It certainly gives flavour
Now to me
I have my soda and my drink of tea
And looking at my bread
The thought goes through my head
Thank you Nan
Thank you for cold tea
