My Ancestral Home

My Ancestral Home

I went to see the old place
Slinaunrua
The Fahy’s lived there
Once upon a time
Pat Fahy married
Mary Loftus
A family of girls
And just one boy

The girls went to America
For ever
The boy my granddad
Over England way
A sister Mary followed
With old Pat Walsh
Had to leave
They in the family way

One sister Kate
Stayed behind In Slinaun
Married a Nevin
By the way
Paddy Nevin son and bachelor
My uncle
A kindly man I’d say

Now the place was
In the hands of newbies
Dan and Dee
Blow-ins as they say
Lovely people
Made me very welcome
Musical they were
And often play

We stood outside awhile
When I was leaving
Margaret took a photo on her phone
I joked to Dan I needed just me in it
Your house maybe
But my ancestral home!
