My father’s mother
Nanna lived down Astley
Windsor Avenue
And at number 3
We visited on Sunday
After dinner
We got down there just in time for tea
A brilliant pastry cook
As I remember
My grandma to me spells apple pie
Her smile of welcome
Stays with me forever
She is smiling at me now
In my mind’s eye
Love doesn’t stop
When people leave us
Love unites
Wherever we may be
Grandma died back in ‘57
But the love she gave
Has always stayed with me
In childhood
It builds a firm foundation
In adult years
Supporter of our dreams
In later life
A joy that I remember
She was apple pie and custard
She was cream
