At Heaven’s Door

There’s a little baby
Buried next to Mammy
A little Polish girl
A few months old
Joy she brought no doubt
To those who love her
She lives in someone’s heart
Her story told

Mammy lived a long life
And a good one
She reached the grand old age of 94
Now laid to rest
The one beside the other
They are holding hands
As they reach heaven’s door

Some deaths
They make a mockery of living
A precious life death will cast aside
The gods of war and illness
Have us grieving
Death will take us all
Its greatest pride

The death of Jesus
Makes all life worth living
He lived a life faithful to the end
He teaches how to live
He teaches loving
How to be a good and faithful friend

On the cross
In his dying moments
The Lord of life has promises to keep
And Paradise this day
Is what he promises
To a broken man and a dying thief

I think this world
Too beautiful to ponder
This life of ours too wonderful to end
It makes no sense to me
That death is final
Love must conquer all
I say, my friend

My mammy and that little girl
Are living
In a world beyond our sight
Beyond our ken
I firmly believe and hope
That we will join them
And that’s my prayer for all of you
Amen
