‘No Admittance’ says the locked up building
“No Admittance’ says the locked up heart
The threshold to our home is safely guarded
Front door key and bolt keep us apart
Admitting truth can often be too daunting
Like suspects at interrogation time
Once admit the truth of what has happened
We face responsibility for our crime
Admitting cruel news can be too awful
As Peter felt when Jesus warned of pain
‘This must not happen,’ Peter then commanded
A reprimand and ‘Satan’ was the name
‘Soon you will have sorrow,’ Jesus told them
‘But sorrow too will then turn into joy,’
They couldn’t understand, he could not tell them
Nor spell out what his enemies would employ
Admitting to ourselves a truth that’s heavy
Is allowing something real inside your door
You cannot then ignore the word you’ve spoken
And speaking it will help your world restore
Some truths inside are buried best forgotten
But you cannot live in peace beside the dead
They need exhumed and given holy ground
So you can breathe fresh air and hold your head
The Lord himself would seek a kind admittance
Behold, he says, I stand at the door and knock
Each morning give admittance to his calling
You have a home and it is built on rock
