Blue Grass

I’ve bumped into the Petersens
Blue Grass singing folk
A family group from Branson in Missouri
Fiddle guitar and banjo
Double bass by Ma’
Mandolin I couldn’t bide no hurry

Read about that Blue Grass
It’s Hill-Billy style
Kentucky is its home
West Virginia
In mountain country places
You’ve got to play a tune
Singin’ and dancin’ yodellin’
And howling at the moon

It’s brilliant I love it
I know I’ll listen more
And then my thoughts went wandering
Hit on another shore
My granddad played the fiddle
In Mayo long ago
Was called upon for dances
When colleens took the floor

But practice was a problem
When Michael was at home
His mother made him go outside
It wasn’t the deafening tone
No the music made her cry I heard
The melody in her heart
Too strong too tender for her ears
So Michael played apart

Great grandmother Mary Loftus
Our paths have never crossed
But today I recognise your pain
I recognise your loss
Your children in America
In Britain, far from you
And Michael played his music then
Far away from Slinaunrue
