I watched my cousin Mickey Carey play
For Kiltane GAA one sunny day
But the game that day was not what took my eye
But the place where he was playing I defy
I defy anyone anywhere to name
A spot that is so beautiful and grand
With crashing waves when storms come
And booming sounds galore
An unknown corner of the western land
A mighty mountain stands across the bay
A rugged headland dives into the deep
Low lying islands pop up in the mist
And setting suns lullaby you to sleep
The Sounding Sandy Banks to give its name
You won’t see that name written on a screen
This lovely spot in Mayo I stumbled on that time
Doohooma – down in Erris and a dream
