In Leyton London one tea time
I knocked on a quiet front door
An old man gave me a welcome
His accent I knew from before
His brother was sitting inside then
Two bachelor boys we have here
And I a priest on the mission
Made welcome by men with no fear
Gentle old fellers they were too
We sat and we chatted a while
And the accent it grew so familiar
I told them that I knew that style
You’re Mayo men clearly I told them
They nodded their heads to agree
And you’re Erris men too then I ventured
They smiled, as they looked straight at me
I’d say your location is Bangor
Well you’re not far away the reply
Your people you say are Glencullen
Well we are from old Glenamoy
They’d lived and they’d worked there in London
And neither had married ‘twas clear
When I asked they said no they were single
You’ll find no petticoats here!
