My clan was all behind me
And I was so proud to be
A member of the Carey clan
A member of Fahy
A member of the Trumbles too
A member of O’Hara
Of Gaughan and of Loftus
And of the bold Flannery
But now I sit and here I am
My clan is all before me
In Michael and in Holly
And in a baby soon to be
And life flows on now through us all
And we are family
And clan and tribe and everything
The human race can be
And I the baby and the boy
Became a growing man
And now old age creeps up on me
I’ve nearly reached the span
This coming child demands my view
My attention to the fore
For what’s ahead is life again
On earth at heaven’s door
