‘A Westerly Air Flow Covers Ireland…’

Slanting Lancashire rain kept us indoors

Hard for mum to keep us occupied

Sometimes we would put the records on

Remembering the while Glencullen side

Irish records mum brought home with her

To lift her spirits in the Lanky gloom

We sang along sometimes we knew the words

So often played and we knew every tune

Looking out the window at the rain

Not a rare occurrence on this scene

We heard the words of an old familiar tune

‘The road by the river that flows through Raheen’

And here we were now acting out this song

Our little sub noses fastened up to the pane

Sadly watching the rain as it made little streams

And the road by the river that flows through Raheen

A fair share of rain on our parade

Lancashire precipitation if you will

And Mayo knows its share of wet believe me

It’s amazing that we never caught a chill
